Last week, CCDC hosted the 2nd Women & Diversity Luncheon featuring Kristin Hutchins, Associate Professor of Chemistry at the University of Missouri. The event was moderated by Manisha Sheokand, CCDC Women’s Initiative Chair, who opened the panel with thoughtful questions to guide the discussion.
We were honored to have a distinguished panel, including Dr. Eva Schneiderman, Director of Oral care at Proctor & Gamble, Professor Anna Gudmundsdóttir, Professor Ruxandra Dima, Assistant Professor Briana Simms, and Dr. DeVonna Gatlin. Together with our attendees, they engaged in an inspiring conversation on topics such as the experiences of women in chemistry, the importance of diversity in STEM, and the transition from academia to industry, plus betting on yourself.
The panelists shared valuable insights on navigating career pathways, building supportive professional networks, and promoting inclusivity through mentorship and leadership. Through this discussion, we explored the challenges and opportunities that exist in advancing diversity and equity within the scientific community.
We are sincerely thankful to our panelists and attendees, including faculty, graduate students, and CCDC board members, for their support and presence in these important discussions. CCDC remains dedicated to fostering an inclusive environment and supporting underrepresented groups within the chemical sciences.
