Our first awardee goes to Leanna Patton for her dedication to teaching, mentorship, and leadership excellence. In her namesake award, we highlight Dr. Philips for her contribution to industry and academia after graduating as the first African-American graduate from UC's PhD chemistry program. Attending Vanderbilt University at the dissolution of segregation, she was in one of the first racially mixed classes in Nashville's top university. She is now running for ACS President-elect 2024.
