About the event
Did you know that the only scientist to win Nobel Prizes in two different scientific fields was a woman?
Marie Curie received the Nobel Prize in Physics (1903) and Chemistry (1911) for her pioneering work on radioactivity.
Or that Dorothy Crowfoot Hodgkin determined the structures of penicillin, vitamin B₁₂, and insulin using X-ray crystallography- work that transformed structural chemistry?
And Stephanie Kwolek discovered Kevlar, a material five times stronger than steel by weight, now widely used in protective equipment.
These are just a few examples of the remarkable contributions women have made to chemistry and science. If you’re curious to learn more stories like these and celebrate the scientists who have shaped our field join us for our Women’s History Month Social hosted by the Consortium for Cultural Diversity in Chemistry (CCDC).
